Structure Fire in Virginia

0

November 9, 2009 18:07- The Chilhowie Fire Department was alerted of a reported structure fire in the 1100 block of Sunset Drive. Responding units were: Chief 201, Quint 251, Engine 252, Brush 254, and Medic 259. Chief 201 arrived on-scene and established Incident Command. An on-scene report was given to responding units that advised a two story vacant residential structure fully involved. As units arrived, they began a defensive attack on the fire.

Engine 252 established a water supply by catching a hydrant and laying supply line in. Due to the size of the structure a few different attacks were made on the fire. E252’s deck gun was used to flow water onto the fire. Additional ground monitors were put into service to assist in extinguishment, and 1 ¾” hand lines were also used. E252 provided scene lighting to help illuminate the dark scene. The foam system on E252 was used to add Class A foam to the water flowing onto the fire.

Once the fire was deemed under control, crews on-scene were able to use the 1 ¾” hand lines to overhaul the structure. Thermal Imaging Cameras were used to help detect hot spots throughout the scene. After the fire was extinguished, C201 terminated Incident Command and all units cleared the scene at 23:09.
