Neighbor Rescued by Firefighters After Heroic Rescue Attempt at Morristown Fatal Apartment Fire

MORRISTOWN, TN- A woman died and a man who was attempting to save her life suffered smoke inhalation late this morning in a fire at Townview Apartments on North Henry Street in Morristown, firefighters and police confirmed.

Terry Rathbone, who lives at the apartment complex, identified the victim as his mother, Betty Rathbone. The man says his mother was in her 70s.

Morristown Fire Chief Bill Honeycutt Tuesday afternoon declined to identify the deceased woman. Honeycutt said an autopsy will be performed on the woman’s body to conclusively determine her identity.

As of Tuesday afternoon, fire officials had not yet identified the injured man or the cause of the blaze.
