Storms Tear Through Hamilton County
Posted on July 27th, 2010. Submitted by Amy Maxwell. HAMILTON COUNTY, TN- At 3:00 pm, a large thunderstorm and ground lightning hit several areas of Hamilton County. At 3:05 pm, lightning strikes a house at 4102 Wilson Avenue (Walden’s Ridge area). Walden’s Ridge Emergency Services responds and confirms smoke showing but significant fire. At 3:05 pm, Signal Mountain Fire Department responds to another lightning strike located at 4460 Shackleford Ridge Road (Signal Mtn. Area) with small amount of fire showing in the interior of the house but was quickly extinguished by Signal Mtn VFD.. At 3:35 pm, another.9-1-1 call was received another lightning strike at 6337 Old Dayton Pike (Hixson area). Dallas Bay VFD responded and arrived on the scene confirming a tree down in front of the residence and smoke showing in the garage. Chief Marcus Fritts, Dallas Bay VFD, reported lightning struck the tree which hit the power lines and proceeded to run into the home. Damage is estimated at $4,000. At 3:45 pm, another lightning strike on a home was reported by a neighbor who witnessed the strike. This time, the lightning strikes a home in the Ooltewah area at 8718 Cody Dan Court. Tri-Community VFD responded and arrived on the scene reporting heavy smoke coming from the eaves. Firefighters extinguished the fire quickly which was contained to the attic area. Damages estimated $125,000. The owner, Natasha Chayka, is on vacation and no one was home at the time of the incident. Ms. Chayka was insured. No injuries were reported at any of these addresses.
